We don’t need politicians to be particularly familiar with science. They can outsource that. A health minister doesn’t need to know medicine nor defence minister know much about tanks. Politicians need to be good at speaking clearly & articulating ideas so we can criticise them.
That’s true, although without that scientific background they have little incentive to pay attention to science at all

I dunno. I have no medical background but a real interest in what goes on there. The same with finance and law. Indeed many many things I don’t have a background in, I like to pay attention to. I’m sure I’m not alone :)

@TurnbullMalcolm as an example. He had zero background in science but was one of the better supporters of “innovation” and science etc we’ve had in politics).
