I think it's less about pleasure & more about dissociation. Lots of long-term beneficial activities are also pleasurable in many ways (flow states an obvious main category) but harder to dissociate while doing them. People aren't pursuing pleasure so much as fleeing discomfort.

Interesting way of looking at it. I was more referring to instant pleasure hits. Like eating a bar of chocolate, staying in bed instead of going for a walk, scrolling through social media etc. But you’re right, there’s definitely a level of dissociation involved
