I’m for prison abolition (eventually) and releasing non-violent offenders at least until COVID resolves. But police are arresting people for assault daily in the Tenderloin. Are they then releasing offenders back onto the streets? @chesaboudin

The basic idea is: everything else equal, prisons serve to redirect & increase violence by encouraging violence within its doors & among its victims during & after their imprisonment. Alternatives include: restorative justice, restitution, restraining orders, home arrest, etc.
