Yes, I have written a PhD about Strauss. No, not Richard Strauss. Music, swimming, that's about it. gogglesatdawn.blogspot.com

A fair sprinkling of misogyny emanated, at times from columns published via . This 'driven from office' narrative has a whiff of misogyny about it too.

I see "worst PM" is trending on NZ Twitter, so I can only assume people are talking about unambiguously NZ's worst leader, Alfred Domett (1862–63): an economic ignoramus, a violent racist who pursued some of the most punitive policies against Māori, and a prolix poet to boot

In his comments on #Tar Norman Lebrecht criticises #LydiaTar for conducting the trumpet solo at the beginning of Mahler Five - “no conductor would do it” he says. But here with is Leonard Bernstein doing just that youtu.be/9KSESLJ0LWA via #JustSaying

Making my weekly Twitter visit to (a) check it's still here, (b) make it known that a broken nose really hurts and is annoying, and (c) announce that custard squares (chocolate icing) are powerfully medicinal in the current circumstances.

Disgusted to hear Suella Braverman say there's an "invasion on our southern coast", just a day after a migrant detention centre was fire-bombed. Language like this – portraying migrants as "invaders" – whips-up hate & spreads division. She's totally unfit to be Home Secretary.

Ms Braverman said the current system is "broken" and "out of control", adding: "The British people deserve to know which party is serious about stopping the invasion on our southern coast."- well clearly not the Conservatives who have these last 12 years and completely failed

Thrilling dream in which I toured the country giving a talk in church halls and RSA rooms on 'The Societal Value of a Weekly National Day of Silence.' Banning adverbs may also have been part of it.

Would it not make sense to protest at/disrupt an F1 Grand Prix, or an oil company office/HQ?

A climate protester glued his head to “Girl With a Pearl Earring" on Thursday — the latest in a series of actions by activists that have targeted world-renowned paintings to draw attention to climate change. nyti.ms/3sH5QtK
It's Labour Weekend, when some of the locals start their summer swimming in earnest with a 30km weekend (10km each day). This morning: a chilly excursion in 12 degree water to Balaena Bay and back, and then 5km of sweating in the pool. Tomorrow, pool, and then Worser Bay.

Enjoying the perk of free DVD borrowing from WCL: working through every series of Law & Order from the beginning, and gasping in amazement at how often they uncannily predicted (in the mid-90s) events of the last half-decade.

Galling that etc don't find it in themselves to pay decent arts critics decently but do happily pay for this weekly bucket of regurgitated pabulum.

Reading this reminded me of listening to the student in the tutorial who hasn't done the reading, but firmly believes that her general feels mean she should talk more than anybody about stuff that has gone way over her head. stuff.co.nz/opinion/129578

Someone who mistook me for an organized person asked me to tweet about my ADHD coping strategies. So I wrote a massive information dump 🤣 it's actually cracking me up what a rambling mess it is 🤣 Ask an ADHD question, get an ADHD answer 🤣🤣🤣

My ADHD life is a continuous battle for self-improvement. I don't struggle with motivation exactly, but numbers, calendars, dates, times, and schedules turn my brain to mush. After a LOT of trial and error, I've found some ways to organize my chaos. 🧵

I really can't see that only answering emails and calls during your proper working hours, and taking your full lunch break equate to doing the 'bare minimum'. It might help you to keep your heart *in* the job. But, whatever you say, Jill...

‘Quietly quitting is often a sign that it’s time to move on from your role,’ says Jill Cotton, career trends expert at Glassdoor. 'If you’re reducing your effort to the bare minimum needed to complete tasks, your heart is probably no longer in the job or the company.'

Noble statement, immediately undermined by a quick perusal of the programmes/history of the National Gallery Concerts during WWII: "‘We find what audiences want is the music of Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Brahms,’ Myra Hess commented." nationalgallery.org.uk/about-us/histo

Some people are worried about calls to avoid Russian music, theatre, etc in public cultural spaces. They needn’t be. During WW2, London concert programs weren’t exactly bursting with Bach & it was probably bad timing for Faust on Broadway. It matters who we celebrate & when. 1/2

Today I was tutted at when parking in a disabled space. I had all these tubes hidden under my clothes, so I looked like a young, healthy person. But in reality, I still have a disability, despite choosing to hide my tubes. Friendly reminder that most disabilities are invisible!

It needs to be noted here that at 6am, three hours into her return lap, Rebecca requested a coffee with her next feed, ideally a long black. We had the plunger on the big boat, the barista was woken, and coffee was made and handed down into the IRB for her 'breakfast'.

Just while sharing stories about phenomenal women🏊‍♀️, here's my friend Rebecca's record-breaking double crossing of Taupō in April. 80+km in 27h 48m. youtu.be/9DKz_I2VGmQ Here and there I make cameo appearances, sometimes wearing my commodious straw hat.
