    This excellent thread - including how payments under the -catalysed big tech agreement with Australian media are helping amplify NewsCorp content - is rich, detailed, and a must-read.

    So yes, News Corp are going to be doing a 'pro net zero' campaign And no, it isn't all that surprising. The days of denial are done - delay and greenwashing are the core goals, and 'net zero by 2050' fits the bill *perfectly* New piece ->

    Real estate was an early non-reader revenue win for NewsCorp, which began acquiring REA in 2001 and now owns 61%. In the media revenue bloodbath of 2020, property helped keep Newscorp in the black [source: ] 1/2

    REA is now controlled by the Murdochs with a market capitalisation of $20.5 billion. Back in 1995 it was started in a Manningham garage. Check out this fascinating interview with the founders at that East Doncaster property:

    True for this NY Times reporter as well in many cases. The secrecy, the low standards for transparency, may be Australian democracy's greatest flaw.

    ever tried getting answers from a govt department? it usually goes like this: 1. Phone call 2. "Can you put that in an email?" 3. Sends list of detailed questions, with context 4. Vague, single line response that doesn't answer any of your questions

    This is a cool idea if you're a generalist news reporter looking to improve your science journalism game. Peer-to-peer mentoring has really come into its own in 2021 and this is one of many exciting uses of the learning approach.

    . has been promising to do more to prevent attacks and threats to women on this platform for years. When a leading public service journalist has to take down her entire account, it's obvious Twitter's current approaches are *still* not working.

    Thanks, Leo. Yes, Lisa has deactivated her account because she was on the receiving end of some truly vile & distressing personal attacks. We all cop criticism here. No one is perfect. But the stuff Lisa was subjected to was next level. Those responsible should be ashamed.

    There is so much in this thread for every industry, including journalism.

    I want to tell a family story about racism, tenure and death. When my father, Harish Verma, was my age his academic career stalled. He had earned his PhD in Geology and Paleontology in 1972 and for a decade he frantically applied for jobs. And guess what? He kept the receipts.
