Supervisor @LincolnSeward is not aligning himself with Brandau on this.
He tells me:
“Dr. Vohra is empowered during this time and I trust he is making decisions that are in the best interest of Fresno County.”

We’re outside the county Hall of Records for Brandau’s press conference. He says he comes to us humbly because he doesn’t have all the answers. He says good people are at odds about what to do. (The CDC, the AAP, state and county public health officials are on the same page.)pic.twitter.com/4FGCjhsyTL

He says he opposes the complaint for injunction filed by the county. There was a closed session discussion and he says all he can say is he was opposed. He says his opposition is to any private or public school being closed.

He cites the AAP and National Federation of Teachers saying kids should be back in school. Not quite accurate. They agree children learn best when physically present, but agree it’s not a good idea where the virus is widespread.

He says anecdotally he’s getting the same info from students and parents. He says a sophomore told him everyone in his class cheats on everything.

He says he’s not opposed to all lawsuits. For example, he says the county should do it if a school or business three all caution to the wind. But he says Immanuel has a plan for safety. They haven’t publicized whatever their plan may be. I’ve asked repeatedly.

He says for some people this is all about politics or money.

Brandau acknowledged when I asked that he hasn’t read the entirety of statements from AAP or CDC recommending schools *not open* in areas of high community transmission.

Brandau says Immanuel administrators told him they were advised against telling him any of their safety precautions.

Brandau says he’ll propose something to get special needs students back in school. Remote learning may be even more harmful to them:https://www.npr.org/2020/08/20/904195408/students-with-disabilities-struggle-to-learn-remotely …

Brandau acknowledge Reedley is a hot spot with widespread coronavirus transmission. He says the county is trying to address that by helping farmworkers. (The public health department, CAO, and county attorney are trying to address it with this injunction as well.)
