The moon is tide locked to the earth. The earth never rises. It waxes and wanes in the same spot.

Right--Earth never rises or sets as seen from the lunar surface. But Apollo 14 was in orbit around the Moon at the time, which is how it saw Earth rising above the horizon.

Unlike a crescent Moon from Earth, this "rise" will take a week to apex, and not 6h in the reverse case? (Since the
rotates once a month only, always showing the same side to us... Also means that once you land on a spot on the
like this one, Earth will always be crescent?) -
Earthrise is possible only while orbiting the Moon. From any spot on the lunar near side, Earth stays in one place in the sky but cycles through phases over the month.

Did clouds create the varying intensity of reflection from the moon?

Here's a close-up of just the perfect, vulnerable-looking, crescent earth from my full-res version. The detail captured from such a distance with an 80mm lens is testament to the camera's and astronaut-photographers:pic.twitter.com/Kh5dRLtWEQ
