    The rub is attaching policy specifics to such abstract labels. What is the “broad center?” What is the “far left?” The latter is often a boogeyman label, meant to scare / intimidate (not alleging that here, just noting how both sides use). Median Voter Theory is, on balance, bad.

    If Democrats go for the broad center, we can beat this guy. But oh man are we taking a risk if we think Trump offers an opportunity to go as far left as our primary electorate will let us.

    many of the 76 men who wrote the south carolina constitution of 1868 had just been emancipated from slavery a few years earlier. some were barely literate. the constitution they wrote guaranteed public education, abolished race discrimination, and gave rights to women.

    Biden 39 of 78 votes needed for viability in my district. A very liberal district but this is still a bit of a shock to me, I don't think we're super young, and are fairly affluent, I think

    Also if you wonder how single-payer dramatically saves $$$ by using one consistent insurance fund, note the actual advice from the conservative health care wonk here is to retroactively cancel insurance if your costs are low. A bad system for insurance!

    yes, if successful, impeachment would overturn the 2016 election by installing the elected vice president who would then continue the administration installed by trump. it is practically a coup!

    One truly extraordinary thing about the Democrats' impeachment is that, if successful, it would not only overturn the 2016 presidential election but fundamentally re-shape the 2020 presidential election.

    Manos: The Hands of Fate was good, actually.

    MST3K was bad for movies & movie watching; it set up an entire generation of audiences (& their progeny) to position themselves above and condescend down to certain types of movies that didn’t fit their idea of “good”, as opposed to geneuinely engaging with their idiosyncrasies.

    I was going to say something snarky but I’ll just be straightforward: It makes me so sad, worried and scared to see black people’s experiences dismissed like this and to see so many people get behind it

    Not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite as surreal as the range of looks on the faces of a group of affluent, educated professionals listening as a grandson of Nazi genocide victims describes the societal conditions that lead to the scapegoating & persecution of ethnic minorities
