Agree about the gulf between ugrad teaching and practice of programming. But curious as to what about Dragon book ruined compilers for you?

What were your issues with the Dragon book?
-
I found it too boring. I felt like the first few chapters were mostly all about parsing and the professor who taught the course loved it so all our initial assignments were about parser construction. The more interesting parts were too little too late in the semester.

In Foundations of Software Engineering at CMU last semester,
@michaelhilton and@clegoues went over dev/ops, deployment, chaos engineering, microservices, sprints, etc., with a goal of a final project where students submit PRs to OSS, and many were merged by the end! -
Basically, the idea is you scope a smallish change to an existing OSS project with a team and take it from planning through coding, testing, deployment using various processes, tools, methodologies, etc.
