Is human self-development open-ended, or closed-ended? In an open-ended view, the most important thing is acquiring and growing capabilities. In a closed-ended view, the most important thing is overcoming sin to achieve spiritual perfection.
By efficiency, do you mean the alignment of our actions with our intentions? (What about the step before, uncovering our Values to create intentions from? I think this is where most people are stuck, as opposed to the alignment step.)
