The first words that popped in my mind. Logic Axioms Parameter Variables Seems like everything is built from logic.

Thank you! I think that "variables" are profound. Currently, I have them linked under "variation/variance", and that linked under "change" But I might add it into the "temporary sandbox" as well, because I so often use the word "variables" to describe dynamic "parts" of a system

"analogy" might be a more fundamental unit than "variables" for that thread of concept

The way I perceive it, "analogies" are closely related to "metaphors" or "similes", and all of that can be linked under "comparisons" — which is a concept currently playing in the fundamental sandbox. Do you use "analogy" and "variables" interchangeably or in a linked way?

I do think analogy and comparison do fit better (I was thinking of analogy in the Douglas Hofstatder sense, fundamental to cognition), but something still bugs me about variable - it's a symbol for something else. A value, vector, matrix, even functions. Hence, analogy.

I do think "variable" is getting closer to fundamentals, but could be described by simpler concepts.

Information? A variable is an information medium that can take on one value from at least 2 distinguishable states.

This is a good direction. Isn't it just fancy bit?

Part of the challenge of the "fundamental sandbox" is an attempt to describe phenomena & dimensions that might exist without human perception. Analogies, as I currently see them, are indeed a core function of our cognition, but they are intrinsically baked into our sensemaking.

Could you point to the most robust (in your opinion) example in your sandbox of a concept existing outside of human sensemaking?

Also what mindmapping software do you use?

I'm playing with several, but my primary software, and the one featured in all of the screenshots, is TheBrain! :)
