Reminds me of 's church-warming where we had a sock-sliding competition across the wooden floor. 🥰 (Part of it was the rarity of having space in the Bay area for such an activity! So often there's little room to move around here...)

“[Modern homes] seem designed primarily to maximize one thing: the square-footage number that will be on the listing when it’s sold.” This article is excellent. Lots of detail, concrete and philosophical, about how they approaches designing their home.

I've had a few friends privately tell me that they're struggling to have and exert a sense of self - Is this common for your mid-twenties? Or is it a societal movement? (I think it's correlated with atomization, and also a common step on the way to self-authoring)

I think the death of polymaths is due in part to the loss of spaces where polymaths can iterate and discuss the full spectrum of their interests, without being funneled towards a specific career path - What are the best examples of spaces where we still see this happening?

My 3yo said there were leaves inside her body. I asked how they got there and she said, “I just stepped on the sidewalk and they just feeled inside my body!” Poetry.

When my AirPods are trying to block out the cries of the baby in the next room, I imagine a tiny anti-baby inside the device, crying in reverse polarity to cancel the waveforms.

"Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context – a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan" - Eliel Saarinen Which means you need to research the next larger context and not just 'your' thing.

4b/ revision: so I was actually thinking of Doug Engelbart for the above comment, with the Mother of All Demos (though Alan Kay should be mentioned as well, I just need to find specific work I want to point at first!)

Anecdote is frequently what remains when transmission is fractured and interrupted. Anecdote escapes many technologies of capture.
