There is a little plastic ring on the baby’s penis and it falls off after a week. No aftercare is needed, no open wound or stitches.

So it’s not the same at all. Many of you talk about consent. Here is where it gets a bit grey imho

I disapprove of doing the surgery to any boy above 3 months, which is the cut off limit for the very painless and way simpler ring surgery, because it will involve putting the child in a lot of pain. If pain is involved, he should give consent, otherwise it’s torture.

As a parent before the infant turns 3 you have to decide: cut or don’t cut? If you cut, he might hate u for it. If u don’t cut, he might want to do it later n also hate u for not doing it when he was a baby; now his procedure will be so painful. Who knows what the kid will want?

In any case as parents we have to go through many of these decisions without “consent” for the child, if we talk about human rights that way nobody can let their kids go to piano lessons because what if they don’t consent?

I also absolutely do not agree with the whole “natural” argument. Firstly we modify our natural selves all the time, it’s undeniable that there are useless shit on us like wisdom teeth or tonsils or appendixes.

I also removed my kid’s tonsils n adenoids because they kept being infected and he had difficulty breathing and the doctors advised me to. So I mutilated him now against his consent? What if he doesn’t feel whole when he is an adult?

Let me ask u this one, it’s a real life scenario that happened to a friend. She had a preemie baby and coz of her short genes and the premature birth, he ends up being much shorter than his peers. He is only 4 but is so depressed about it, he wanted to see a doctor.

So she brought him to the doctor. The specialist said based on calculations as an adult he will be barely above her height, which is 4ft9. Doc said the boy can start on growth hormone therapy, BUT

Everyday he has to do injections (the boy said he doesn’t mind, but he is 4). And there is an increased chance of bone cancer. As a parent, what do you decide?

You leave him alone, b/c there is nothing "wrong" with being short.
