Serious question American friends: why do so many of you think that male #circumcision is acceptable?
Physically & permanently maiming a helpless, unconsenting child for no good reason? Isn't that infringement of human autonomy & freedom?
Isn't it the definition of child abuse?

Why do most American parents circumcise their sons? Because medical experts, like the American Academy of Pediatrics & the CDC, say the benefits of newborn circumcision outweigh whatever harm intactivists assert. That changes when docs say it causes more harm than help!

Cultural bias. And lucrative for the medical profession. No other developed countries think it is beneficial... why only believe US docs who have a financial stake in the matter? Would you condone removing every child's tonsils to avoid tonsillitis?

I cannot explain why docs in some other countries feel differently. But are we parents supposed to reject American medicine because some foreign docs have a cultural bias of their own? Your argument is not with American parents it seems, but with American doctors.

It's because doctors looked at the evidence & rightly concluded that the 1 potential "benefit" of infant circumcision (decreased chance of UTI) can easily be addressed non-surgically & is more than outweighed by the harms & risks, which include death. http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2013/03/12/peds.2012-2896 …
