All right, #tweetiatrician folks: Baby L’s pedi (and one of my fav attending) doesn’t believe that teething is painful for babies. Anyone care to weigh in? Or offer explanation for this increased irritability with new tooth? Normal development?

Her reasoning is that it doesn’t hurt older kids when their permanent teeth come in, so no reason to think babies are in pain vs crabby and going through normal developmental strife

Um it DOES hurt when teeth come in so idk what this lady is talking about. I still remember how much it ached when my molars were literally erupting through my gums

Exactly, I thought this was going to be one of those, "babies don't feel pain" pediatricians.

She’s definitely one of those. She just kind of says “eh, I don’t know that the fussiness during teething is related to pain”

When you come across "one of those" - b/c there's a reason why a pediatrician would say something so ridiculous, unsupported by evidence & against common sense as "babies don't feel pain" - cite this article & RCT: #i2 https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/moral-landscapes/201109/myths-about-circumcision-you-likely-believe … http://www.cirp.org/library/pain/lander/ …
