Routine Infant Circumcision is unethical! Get with the rest of the world and stop recommending it! Cutting babies for cultural reasons Is not in your scope of practice!! DO NO HARM

No medical org in the world "recommends" nontherapeutic infant circumcision, including
@AmerAcadPeds, which is the only medical org to say infant circumcision "benefits outweigh risks." But AAP says the true extent of the risks is unknown, disproving that assertion.@AAPPres#i21 reply 2 retweets 1 like -

It is frustrating that it is always framed in terms of risks. The risks of complications in the procedure are low. But the costs to the man are significant.

And those costs are well known and fixed.

1 of the reasons AAP's circ policy statement says nothing about nature or functions of the foreskin, entirely for political (not medical) reasons. When you understand what foreskin is & does, you can't support amputating it from a child's body

When it comes to the human penis, American medicine is ass backwards. Where else but in America do textbooks begin talking about the foreskin with all the problems it could have? Do we talking about breasts as “those glands that get cancerous and are removed in mastectomy?”

Yes, that is the result of putting cultural bias, politics & $$$ ahead of ethics, science & sound medical practice. US pediatricians not blinded to the inherent wrongfulness of unneeded & nonconsensual amputation of healthy tissue are too scared to challenge it. #putkids1st #i2
