I've heard a number of excuses as to why it was done to me, the most simple one was something like "We talked about it, and decided to have it done"... Another one was "It's just what you did back then!". I shit you not.

So they were either too focused on THEIR feelings regarding it, or they let themselves believe it HAD to be done... I don't like the concept of either one. Both of them show high levels of weakness.

Mostly my mom, my dad didn't put up much resistance to my anger when he realized I was serious.

Your situation seems kind of the opposite of many others. I mostly hear about mothers finally coming to terms and leveling with their sons while the dad's stay gruff, stubborn and aloof to the subject. But maybe I simply haven't heard from enough men like you.

Still, I'm very sorry you had to go through that but I'm also glad you confronted your parents. It takes so much courage to do so (imo, I'd have a hard time w/ such a confrontation).

After the blood starts pumping, and you cool down, it's not hard to take a stand. Going in to it with pure anger doesn't help anyone, and might even hurt what you're going after. Took me a few months to finally realize it had to be done back in 2015.

It is one of the least-discussed aspects of this practice - and that's saying something. I really do not think people who have not had it done to them have any idea what that realization is like or how powerful is the subsequent desire to deem what was done helpful/benign
