1/3 Would you please confirm that Executive Order 2020-17 covers
#circumcision just as it does any other "cosmetic surgery"? I ask for two reasons....#i2#FirstDoNoHarm#MedEd#bioethics#COVID19#GetMePPE#FlattentheCurve@acog@AmerAcadPeds#tweetiatrician#tweetiatricians1 reply 4 retweets 5 likes -
Replying to @cooney21 @GovWhitmer and
2/3 First,
#circumcision is the most commonly performed surgery in the US, but nearly always unneeded. There are about 3,000 daily / 1 million annually in the US. So indefinitely postponing all of them will have a significant effect on efforts to properly conserve#PPE &#triage1 reply 1 retweet 4 likes -
Replying to @cooney21 @GovWhitmer and
3/3 Second, & though the wording of EO 2020-17 quite clearly DOES apply to
#circumcision, it is apparently in the nature of the MDs who perform this surgery on infants & children to think that the rules - including those of#bioethics & basic human decency - don't apply to them.1 reply 1 retweet 4 likes
The typical genital-cutting surgeon will need to have it spelled out like this:
"INDEFINITELY POSTPONE ALL CIRCUMCISIONS that are not necessary to address a medical emergency or to preserve the health and safety of a patient, as determined by a licensed medical provider." #i2
