The international medical consensus - set forth here: https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/131/4/796 … - is that the epidemiological evidence shows that the public health benefits of #circumcision are limited & could never justify forcing it on a child as a matter of #bioethics in any event. #i2

. What you are saying is that it is contraversial Disagreement, charges of bias etc I know how I come down on it But at the very least it's a wash So only those who attach importance to circumcision should do it Like Jews And the UN should stop circumcision in Africa

I think you and I are starting to understand one another. Make that penultimate line "Like adult Jews" and I think we'd be there.

. Maybe it's a matter of political philosophy Jews are a faith, a nation, a society, a collective Circumcision is a cog in that structure On the eighth day of life None of that applies to anyone else

Maybe it's a matter of realizing it can be put off to adulthood, that such a change is not unlike many other changes to do with the practice that have been made through the years, & that the sky won't fall if significant numbers of Jewish men decide not to get cut.

. Maybe the sky will not fall either if you focus your efforts on the billions of nonJews and leave a few million Jews alone

You keep assuming Jews (like David Balashinsky, Leonard Glick, Lisa Braver Moss & many others) aren't already part of our efforts, which are not particularly focused on Jewish circumcision, but can't exempt it either.

. They certainly must exempt it One reason you are so unconvincing is that Jews circumcise for entirely different reasons than others There is no credible Jewish argument you can make against it The other is that Jews do not advocate for circumcision or seek validation

Only one credible argument when it comes to religion: religious freedom belongs to the individual.

. That's a modern political philosophy suitable for a diverse population with irreconcilable differences as in the US For a collective identity w membership such as the Jewish nation, in or out of exile, the divide between individual family community &nation fall out differently

Especially in the 21st century where no person or nation can be an island unto itself, the right to practice one's religion is necessarily an individual right. As soon as you try to give it to a group, you've taken it away from the group's individual dissenters.
