Being tagged has made me aware of a really ugly Twitter subculture: mothers proudly announcing that they are about to have their sons circumcised & baiting people with statements like "his body belongs to me, it's my property & I will do whatever the hell I want with it."

I’m glad my parents had me circumsized as a baby and my sons will thank me too. Who the heck would want that done at 18? Women prefer circumsized penises and cleaner than the strange looking uncircumsized version. This really isn’t the hill to die on. Find another cause.

"Who the heck would want that done at 18?" That's precisely our point. Most men, given the choice, stay intact. Most circumcised men did not have a choice.

There is the small bit that it is far better when done at 1-3 weeks after birth, just saying.

Apart from the rather important point that you are violating his right to make that decision for himself. And no, there is nothing safer or better about doing it to an infant. There's no way to know if you are taking too much, errors are common.

No they aren't, pure intactivist propaganda there I'm afraid. And this is just one of thousands of decisions we made for our kid. Because, you know? He's a kid; that's part of parenting. We got him immunised and use fluoridated toothpaste and water, too. Gasp.

Yeah, I vaccinate my kids and teach them to brush their teeth too. I also decided teaching them personal hygiene was a better idea than cutting parts off their genitals. It's not cleaner, it's not healthier, and it's not my body, so it wasn't my decision to make.

It is cleaner and healthier though. Argue the facts or the appeals to emotional considerations, let's not use misinfo.

#i2 The fact is there's nothing "cleaner" or "healthier" about cutting open a child's penis, with the attendant risk of infections & complications. That isn't just common sense; it's the clear international medical consensus, as set forth here: https://www.littleimages.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Cultural-Bias-in-the-AAPs-2012-Technical-Report-and-Policy-Statement-on-Male-Circumcision.pdf …
