You continue to misunderstand the difference between therapeutic & nontherapeutic #circumcision. Without an actual medical condition that needs to be treated with circumcision (extremely rare), the surgery is nontherapeutic & only the patient himself can validly consent to it #i2

Exactly. VMMC is voluntary and has been used to refer a lot of patients to specialists. We offer a package consisting of free STI Screening and treatment, HIV counselling, testing and risk counselling, condom distribution and referral to specialist care etc

Are you saying
#VMMC doesn't circumcise healthy children? Because if not, you're still not understanding the difference between therapeutic & nontherapeutic (elective) surgery. Children can't validly consent to elective surgery of any kind, let alone surgery to cut off genitalia.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

As I said, children are minors. Also, people change their minds at the last minute. Some children do. They are allowed to change their minds, are they not? That is why it is not FMMC but VMMC

No child can possibly "meet the qualifications" b/c children cannot validly
#consent to elective surgery. Why is this irrefutable ethical fact so difficult to understand?#i2@WHO@CDCgov@AmerAcadPeds#tweetiatrician#VMMC#MedEd#MedTwitter@HillaryClinton@BillGates5 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
Male Circumcision since before the USA became the USA. It has been a cultural practice for a lot of communities. VMMC aids to make these procedures safe too.

As you can't justify non therapeutic
#circumcision on medical grounds, because it unquestionably violates all 4 cardinal principles of medical#ethics, you've retreated to "cultural practice" as a basis for it - the same basis upon which#Brunei just brought back stoning.#i21 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
As I said before, circumcision is a complex topic, much similar to abortion. Yes, there are laws about it, there are NGOs doing it, there are also recommendations from CDC and WHO for it. Maybe in future, things will be much clearer for everyone

Not in the future, today. I've spelled out for you exactly why non therapeutic child genital cutting does not comport with either the cardinal principles of

with the international medical consensus, which is that its risks & harms outweigh its benefits. It's too bad you've chosen to ignore the medical facts & ethical standards applicable to this irreversible & amputative surgery, including those promulgated by the AAP. #i2
