Parents are the patient by proxy. If a parent needs an operation he can always have his child undergo the operation for him. Or her... It just makes medical sense...

AAP Bioethics Committee: "Only patients who have ... decisional capacity and legal empowerment can give their informed consent to medical care. In all other situations, parents ... provide informed permission for diagnosis and treatment of children."

Is there any way to defend nontherapeutic child
#circumcision when it's obviously the cultural significance of that practice to the individual child (not his parents) that matters? Or is silence here an ackowledgment that patient views don't matter to pro-cutters?#i2#MedEdThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
