Government-mandated forced #circumcision of men - not infants, not boys, ADULT MEN - is debated in a national legislature. That's not speculative hyperbole about a fictional or futuristic #dystopia. That's today's news from #Tanzania. #i2 @IntactAmericahttps://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-47169732 …

In Tanzania, 6.5% of cut men have HIV, compared to 5.6% of intact men, according to https://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/CR22/CR22.pdf … So where's the protection?

#i2 It's telling these results came from a U.S. gov't agency publication, prepared by (among others) 2 individuals from Johns Hopkins University, which has a notorious pro-circumcision bias. Just look at the way they spun -er, I mean "characterized" their #circumcision findings:

"There appears...no clear pattern of association between male circumcision and HIV prevalence. In 8 of 18 countries with data, as expected, HIV prevalence is lower among circumcised men, while in the remaining 10 countries HIV prevalence is higher among circumcised men." (p. 135)

Why did they say "as expected"? Because they're biased Americans, which is also why they mentioned the 8 countries with the data they liked first, and the data they didn't like from "the remaining 10 countries" second. #WagtheDog And if you're wondering why they didn't aggregate

...the data from the 18 countries, it's probably because it shows HIV prevalence among genitally intact men in all 18 countries to be 2.66% and HIV prevalence among circumcised men in all 18 countries to be 2.93%. Or, as the authors of the African RCTs might put it...

          ...The data - taken from 116,161 men - show that #circumcision INCREASES a man's risk of contracting HIV by roughly 10% (from 2.66% to 2.93%). #i2 @PEPFAR #VMMC @HillaryClinton @ClintonFdn @BillGates @JohnsHopkinsSPH @CDCgov @WHO @AmerAcadPeds #tweetiatrician #meded #medtwitter
