Couldn't have said it better myself. The entire US medical profession has a serious #ethics problem. #i2 #HisBodyHisChoice @AmerAcadPeds #tweetiatrician #tweetiatricians #meded @AmerMedicalAssn @acog #PutKids1st #TimetoStartRevokingMedicalLicenseshttps://quillette.com/2017/08/15/female-genital-mutilation-health-benefits-problem-medicalizing-morality/ …

Here's what
#AAP said about Type IV#FGM - the type of FGM involved in this case - in 2010: "[T]he ritual nick ... is not physically harmful." http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/pediatrics/125/5/1088.full.pdf … AAP "retired" that statement after massive public backlash, but w/#FGM ban now gone, who knows? It may come back1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

And it's not just Type IV
#FGM that some US doctors promote. Drs. Jacobs & Arora have already said that removing girls' clitoral hoods is just fine. They will now have $$ in their eyes. Make no mistake, child genital cutting is big business.#i2#meded https://jme.bmj.com/content/medethics/42/3/148.full.pdf …1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

That's it! Stop the visas now!
@realDonaldTrump Not only are they taking residency spots from Americans but they are infiltrating our associations of authority and allowing female genital mutilation! Omg. Stop this NOW! Have we lost our minds? I did not know!1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

They can't outlaw fgm, while allowing mgm (circumcision). That's the problem. We have to stop both. But too many western cultures were tricked into thinking mgm is "fine and can even be beneficial", which is what the tricked believers in fgm also say.

I don't believe that the problems with outlawing male circumcision need to stand in the way of outlawing FGM. They are not the same. The law needs to adjust to be logical and fit the circumstance.

There are many types of
#FGM. Type IV, the type involved in the Detroit case & that you just got so upset about, is a piercing of tissue that normally isn't amputative & is, objectively considered, far less extensive or invasive than amputating a foreskin.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

It is precisely because foreskin amputation is deemed legal & is both more severe than Type IV
#FGM & comparable to clitoral hood removal, that some MDs (e.g. Arora & Jacobs) say both Type IV#FGM and clitoral hood removal should be permitted for girls: https://jme.bmj.com/content/medethics/42/3/148.full.pdf …1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Omg that paper makes me sick! I only read the first paragraph! Yes I agree, some doctors are morally bankrupt. It's disgusting. Disgusting!

It will make you angry, but you should force yourself to read the whole thing. #i2
