The snake's enema was not ordained by his rabbi, imam, priest, or any of his cultural prescriptions on cosmetic appearances. Snakes don't have parents or a community that espouse a group cultural identity, they're treated as individual creatures.

Wrong. Snakes do have parents, and anesthetic-free enemas are an important part of their culture (or so someone once wrote in the snake holy book, so it must be true).
