I feel silly about posting my best bird of 2019 because I'm not a photographer. I use a dilapidated Nikon digital camera to share my love for . But, without your participation, I'd just be talking to myself. So, thank you for being here to love them. .

Me: Here owly owly owly. Owl 1: Huh? Owl 2: Me: There you are! Owl 1: Dude, seriously, what the... Owl 2: Me: Aww owly sleepy. Ok, bye. Owl 1: Hmm. Not very bright, are they? Owl 2: Their brain size makes no sense.

  3. At first, I thought I'd seen a drongo, at a distance, fly back & forth. But its tail-feathers were thicker & unusually white-tipped. So, I pulled out my camera for a closer look. Lo & behold, it was a lovely Blue-Faced Malkoha collecting leaves to build a nest!

I haven't done much with my life. If I were to go out today, I'd be mad at myself for having been an underachiever. I'll feel this way, no matter what I do in the future. But, I'll still crack a smile for having once known where Paradise Flycatchers roamed.

This female Indian Roller was busy eating a large insect, as her male partner swooped in - from behind - for a quick romp. He was done in a few seconds. And she seemed more interested in the meal.

Sometimes, we hold on to our pain because we've lived with it for so long. We refuse to heal for fear that all the bad stuff we went through would then have no meaning. But, even the wisest of owls have no use for darkness - without the promise of daylight.

I woke up at 6:30 AM and eye-rolled myself for having earlier hit the snooze button. My favorite waking hours are between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM because that way, I get to see more . Thankfully, despite the tardiness, a familiar face still showed up.

It took me a long time to realize that it may be cruel & meaningless to remind people, who already feel like crap, that the world is a crappier place than they imagine it to be. Nowadays, I show them a photo of a Hoopoe in the hope that they momentarily feel good.

I was among strangers while waiting to see this Great Indian Hornbill. Many of us were excited because we had never seen one before. There was a collective gasp when it arrived. We looked at each other like we'd seen a ghost. Truth is more exhilarating than fiction.

I sneak up on sleeping owlets, tiptoeing like a cartoon burglar, to photograph them. It's a feeble attempt at appreciating their beauty, without being a nuisance, because they possess enhanced hearing & vision abilities. It doesn't help that I've neither.

Every time I see an Ashy Crowned Sparrow Lark, it seems to blend into the background. I end up losing sight of it. So, I've been able to photograph these only a few times. I was successful during the last encounter. The next time, though, please root for the lark.

Silverbills are known to use the abandoned nests of Baya Weavers. It has also been observed that these don't always wait for the owners to move out or complete the construction. A home may be where the heart is, but it still needs a locksmith.

Feeling depressed isn't the same as fetishizing pain. One's a heartfelt cry for help; the other's a desperate plea for attention. Some people are genuinely lost and in need of guidance. Others are merely in hiding while hoping they'll get noticed.

When flock together in the sky, they create mesmeric patterns. They look like eyelashes performing a dance routine to woo the clouds.

These mongooses were about 25 feet away from where I stood. To my pleasant surprise, they barely paid any attention to me. It seemed as though the adult was imparting some life lessons to the little ones. I hope that lesson 1 was "Four legs good, two legs bad."

If you're a nature campaigner, don't mistake privilege for integrity. It can make you seem arrogant, self-serving & superficial. How can you teach people to respect nature if you can't learn to respect them first? "Build bridges, not walls".

This little owl thought it was in danger. This little owl asked me to go home. This little owl didn't give a hoot, This little owl said, "Oh WTF? Get lost, bro!"

A few seconds upon disappearing below the lake's surface, this Oriental Darter found a tasty morsel. Being lucky, in some ways, is all about knowing when & where to show up. But if you ask the fish, knowledge is merely half the battle.

Spending some time with a mongoose family is my idea of a great start to a Sunday. If that doesn't sound like a heck of an idea to you, I don't think we can be friends.
