Neuroblastoma is a heterogenous disease in terms of outcome: spontaneous resolving through to practically untreatable. It has been suggested that this diversity may be driven by differences in the normal cell the tumour resembles.

We performed single cell RNA-seq on 21 samples across two centres (

Because development is a special stage of life, many development genes are not used in post-natal tissue. Therefore, if Neuroblastoma resemble stalled developmental cells, it may be possible to target genes with this restricted to sympathoblast/neuroblastoma pattern.

An example of this is GD2, which is widely expressed in neuroblastoma/developmental, but mostly not post-natally. Used in treatment of high risk neuroblastoma.
