A couple of days ago an ‘enthusiast’ dropped off a huge amount of printed copies of his cosmology theories into our lounge area at work. Included is an original hand drawn map of the universe. No one seems to be taking them away so what should we do with them?pic.twitter.com/HjqsUD2XYY

As a UK resident but not a citizen I am still very sad that today is the last day I'll live in an EU country. I feel for my many British friends who will lose so much more today. My thoughts are with them.

I’m the only person in my carriage on the 2200 train from London to Notts. It’s kinda freaking me out. Usually this train is totally packed.pic.twitter.com/JqiFucS4a8

When I visit University College London I like to go say hi to Jeremy Bentham. But he’s been dead for almost 200 years you say? No problem! they put his corpse in a glass case in the main building for all to see, maximising happiness. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Bentham …pic.twitter.com/oocXhjBipR

Caroline Herschel’s observing notebook from 1783. Very legible except for the use of the the long s.pic.twitter.com/IwmLlLbx4Y

The Royal Astronomical Society in London shows off its academic bling - journals from 1718 right on the shelf next to where we drink coffee. That’s a bold move

Really sorry that Dennis "Dodgy Dave" Skinner lost re-election. He will be missed. https://youtu.be/Q9SJG8e_hpI via

I knew this looked familiar. The center of M77 as 'seen' by Vincent van Gogh in 1889 vs. SOFIA Observatory magnetic field imaging in December 2019.

There probably isn't a 70 Msolar black hole in our galaxy - https://arxiv.org/abs/1912.04185 . Perhaps we should consider that these ~50-100 Msolar black holes are arising from dwarf galaxies. Paper on this now accepted in ApJ.pic.twitter.com/I310WGbAiG

Have to admit my heart skipped a beat for a millisecond when I first saw this random letter.pic.twitter.com/9qPo4w5co0

Taking the difference in the outer and inner radii it is clear that the outer radii are growing at a fast rate than the inner radii at z < 7. We confirm that this is an actual effect and not a bias by carrying out extensive simulations. (4/n)pic.twitter.com/z4SgezyTok

Using the Petrosian radius, which is independent of distances and surface brightness dimming we can measure how 'inner' and 'outer' parts of galaxies grow with time. The 'eta' values are the ratio of the surface brightness at a radius to the surface brightness within a radius.pic.twitter.com/8GSqk37aEt

We develop a new method of distinguishing high-z galaxies from foreground galaxies. Because of the Lyman-break, we are able to remove contamination. We call this "2D Lyman-break imaging" Example here, 2nd from left is original image, far right, cleaned of foreground. (2/n)pic.twitter.com/mLS3LRMbzJ

NASA is implementing in the next few years a dual anonymous proposal review system for all future missions. This is great news and hopefully will be extended to fellowship and NSF/STFC etc funding panels. Next we can hopefully get rid of letters of reference.pic.twitter.com/tmcyppOiFw

I hope no one takes these predatory journals up on their offers. "Do all our work for us, then pay us for the privilege". What these 'journals' are actually doing is selling a tiny bit of worthless prestige. Sad if anyone needs this so much they get taken advantage of. Avoid.pic.twitter.com/vQNCWObetq

Recently found this photo I took in the Vatican Gallery of Maps, painted in 1580 by Ignazio Danti. This part was particularly interesting to me.pic.twitter.com/eCkthBoFSo
