.@powellnyt has beaten me to publishing some of what's going on at Smith College https://nytimes.com/2021/02/24/us/smith-college-race.html?smid=tw-share … His piece is excellent and accords with my reporting. The injustices he writes about are a large part of what Jodi Shaw has been drawing attention to in recent months

Imagine being a low-paid worker at Smith, knowing the mistreatment of your colleagues and the dire consequences they've unfairly suffered... and seeing a bunch of journalists reflexively accept the story put out by management while reducing it all to a rap song controversy

I don't know myself what Shaw and Smith's admins discussed RE resignation, or who is in the right when their accounts are inconsistent. I do know, on a campus where a bunch of people have tenure, Smith was one of the only people speaking up for falsely accused low-wage workers

This is especially funny because you always reflexively accept the story by people saying they are being canceled over nothing, when facts usually come out later showing it's much more.

That's because the rap controversy was a separate one that was and still is totally trivial. This matter, on the other hand, is substantial.
