This whole thread is interesting, from a smart observer of journalism. However, it seems to me that an anonymous vote of all staff on these controversies would often go against, not in favor of, employees coalitions that win in the activist pressure modelhttps://twitter.com/WesleyLowery/status/1349853083128487939 …

I don't see these as "speech" issues - newsrooms have always selected/curated, w/some views & people denied platform. It's about gulf between where governed want the line drawn & where bosses do - about who defines a publication: the corner office or those who do the actual work

He is right. See the new union at Google which is not about negotiating wages but pressuring management about who they do business with.

The main whole in this argument though is that "those who do the work" are also using someone else's massive platform and distribution network while getting paid to do so. There's a reason why a job to curate content exists. I believe it's called an "editor"

politico has stated that its platform is committed to providing a wide range of opinions, etc. If those "who do the work" don't share those values, they can go create a substack or apply for an NYT job. This really shouldn't be a debate

Particularly if "staff" involved all employees of the company, not just the journalists.
