if you don’t respect the work artists do, don’t consume art. it’s that easy. you don’t deserve to watch movies, read comics & books, you don’t deserve your music & video games, if you then turn around and say “well art isn’t a REAL job” then make your own art to consume?

our society would go absolutely off the rails if it wasn’t for art. you think people wouldn’t riot the moment quarantine starts if they didn’t have art to fill their time with??

My brother just told my parents he wants to persue music full time instead of going to school and i was so happy to find out they support him 100%. Art might be hard to get as a career sometimes, but it's fuckin important.
-
I hope your brother gets far. While I personally struggle to gain confidence to put my compositions out there anyone being proactive in their dreams is someone to watch make it in the end.

I hear you, but we don't do essential work like what's necesary to survive, and unless we're doing work like art necesary to language/culture revitalization, it isn't strictly essential
-
imo the whole attitude around what work is and isn’t “essential” has to change. I don’t think I’d still be alive without art, and I know I’m not the only person for whom that is true, so for me it definitely is essential.

There isn’t a single aspect of our life that an artist didn’t have a part in, whatsoever. The shows we watch, games we play, books we read, even the clothes we wear and the buildings we live in. The food we eat is an art form as well.
-
Marketing is art (often + psychology). So many non-art things are often surrounded/presented in art, otherwise many people might never notice them/get drawn in.

This is not a new take. And many many artists and community arts organizations which have been struggling are suffering right now. This is my passion and I believe Art is a human right. To deny people access to the arts is to deny them a basic part of their humanity.

Productivity is overrated, especially when many of our current societal woes stem less from a lack of resources and more from a select few hoarding resources and capital
