Story time! Single neurons in the brain can’t be depended on for reliable information. Here are some neurons from our recent study, recorded twice in response to the same visual stimuli. Different neurons are active at different times!

  2. Check out the preprint for much more: nucleus segmentation, comparisons to previous state-of-the-art methods, a cell size prediction network etc

  3. Send us your manual segmentations and we’ll include them in the next Cellpose release, making the model better for yourself and everyone else!

  4. The GUI lets you manually segment your own images at a speed of 300-600 objects per hour. Cellpose doesn’t need super precise outlines.

  5. Out-of-the box, Cellpose can segment a large variety of images from different types of microscopy, different tissues and different stains or fluorescent tags. It can even segment rocks, jellyfish and sea urchins.

  6. We trained Cellpose on a diverse set of 608 images, collected and segmented by us. See the t-SNE plot of image styles below.

  7. We developed Cellpose as a generalist algorithm, because many small and big problems in biology require cell segmentation, and there just isn’t enough time to write a new pipeline for every type of data.

, a thread (featuring mice, songs and love): Did you know that male mice sing elaborated, ultrasonic “love” songs to attract females? All this at frequencies so high-pitched that they are inaudible to humans? (1/6)

Presenting: The most detailed map yet of the fruit fly brain. Janelia’s FlyEM team has traced the paths of some 25,000 neurons in the fruit fly brain and pinpointed the places where they connect. Now, all the data is available online for free.

I have a favor to ask. For 20+ years I've been working on a dream: to make all science funded by US taxpayers freely available to all. We are on the verge of achieving this. But we need to show that people care. So please, if you can, sign this letter:

"mathematicians need to think long and hard about how to change the culture in their departments, culture that has led to appallingly few underrepresented minorities and women in the field. URMs and women routinely face discrimination and worse. This is completely unacceptable."

Hundreds of kids in Texas are spending Christmas Eve taking care of each other. Freezing cold, insufficient food, water, medical attention, hygienic resources. No contact with their parents. Many as young as 1.

It's time for the 1st annual census! 🤓📊 Since June of this year, I've been collecting as many neuroscience and neuro-related tweeprints on as I could find. I just analyzed all 251 of them, and wanted to share what I found. (1/n)
