My father was granted release on parole today, after more than 40 years in prison!

He was sentenced to 75 years to LIFE. So, he didn't do "his due time" because Gov. Cuomo granted him clemency, and he was granted parole today.

he lost 40 years of his life and has hopefully been rehabilitated...everyone has different standards of justice

that they did, but should the justice system be centered around forgiveness/rehabilitation or vengeance...I get/understand those who want the latter but I'd rather have one centered around the former

It’s not vengeance. It’s paying the price for taking the life of another person. A person who was not given the opportunity to live free as the one who ended that life is given if set free.

the price is subjective...I think I understand what you're saying but in my opinion (and apparently in the opinion of the NY board of corrections) the price of 40 years was enough
