I feel a bit rusty at this old thread game, but here goes.
I have seen The Big Lebowski about 15 times. I've watched all of the US Office at least 8 times. I must have watched every episode of Bottom at least 30 times.
Why? Well, in part, I think being #autistic is why. /2

And before anyone starts - of course non-autistic people watch the same thing over and over. I know. Im talking about hoe this habit intersects with
#autism. Also, this is all from my perspective, and I do not speak for all. /3Prikaži ovu nit -
It is a natural result, as far as I can see, that we
#autistic types will have films, books, TV shows, games that we will literally *never tire from*. I love the routine of watching Red Dwarf for a 40th time, and it tickles my special interest in space, comedy and Red Dwarf. /5Prikaži ovu nit -
It's something I've experienced from childhood, watching my VHS of Bedknobs and Broomsticks over and over and over again, seeking tremendous comfort in its familiarity. But it's never gone away, and fluctuates based on my state of mind. /6

If I'm tired or stressed or unhappy (ie most of the time
) then I haven't the wherewithal to watch something new. The thought of it makes my wheels wobble, as Thomas the Tank Engine would say. I literally *cannot* cope with new things, a lot of the time. /7Prikaži ovu nit -
This extends to special interests too. I've had a *very* rough winter and as such I haven't managed to gather the spoons necessary to go watch Star Wars 9. I love Star Wars. Love it. But I can't handle novelty right now. /8

I have to be in an excellent frame of mind to try something new. Even Avengers Endgame, which was probably my most anticipated movie since Jurassic Park, was a struggle to go and see. Best way to tell my mood is if I'm willing to watch if read something new. /9

But I'm not sad about the re-watching. I seriously love it. It's like climbing into a warm bed with a cup of tea after a day hiking in the forest. It's an immediate balm on my exhausted brain to let it work on autopilot on something it already knows. /10

It's the equivalent of turning my brain off, or at least the closest I can get to doing this. All the input and analysis calms down and relaxes, the processor cools, you can almost hear the fans slowing down like when you turn a graphically intensive PC game off. /11

My brain treats life like it's Red Dead Redemption 2 on ultra graphics *all the time*, when to be honest I wish it saw everything as being more like SimCity 2000. Watching The Thick of It again helps emulate this. It's nice. /12

It also means I know these media like the back of my hand. Go on, ask me *anything* about Harry Potter books or Indiana Jones films, and I bet I've got it stored somewhere. This is a knowledge reservoir that I also find comforting. /13

So the repetitive behaviour of re-experiencing media - I'd say it has clear links to
#autism. Add your thoughts here if you fancy, we can get a big conversation going. /14Prikaži ovu nit
