    DNA results are in: 'Eastern' Stonechat at Hollesley Marshes (Dec 2019-Jan 2020) has come back as a Siberian (𝘚. 𝘮𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘴). The eighth and final Sibe/Stej conundrum of the autumn resolved.

    Thanks to & for confirming the mtDNA of the Peter Lane Eastern Stonechat from (29th Oct?) 9th-13th November was Stejneger’s Stonechat (S.stejnegeri) a real chameleon of a bird depending on the light

    DNA results are in for the Leebitton/Sandwick ‘Eastern’ Stonechat (26/10/2019). It has come back as a 100% match for known S. stejnegeri. Thanks to & for the photos and the sample.

    The Hume's Leaf Warbler found at Tarbat Ness on the 5th November this year confirmed as the nominate subspecies ssp humei not ssp mandellii, many thanks to and for the DNA analysis!

    Thanks to and who have genetically confirmed that this spring’s Orphean Warbler was a Western Sylvia hortensis. “it matches a single S. hortensis from Spain and very divergent (6-7%) from 4 [S.] crassirostris [Eastern Orphean] from Israel and Greece”

    Siberian Chiffchaff on 28th October now additionally confirmed by DNA analysis although no real doubt at the time. Thanks to Thomas Shannon/Martin Collinson for the analysis.
