But I do have that glory of being a CARTOONIST, which is a job that definitely shows up on those checklists of how you’re employed if you ever try to like, get a loan or health insurance or eat a food. Everyone wants to be a cartoonist it’s so coveted, #prestige for days.

Yeah, it’s about time us creative types get knocked down a peg! I’m so awash in the prestige of having to constantly advocate for my own worth as an artist with every single project I take on, not to mention the zero benefits, unpredictable work flow, and income disparity.

I told them that they needed to actually produce some comics first, because concept art is all well and good, but if the concept is a comic, you have to show you can actually make one. Needless to say, the comic imprint they were trying to launch never materialized.

I went to a meeting at a big entertainment company a few years ago and they were looking to start a comics imprint. The walls were plastered with “concept art” for some stories they wanted to tell, but it was all illustration, not a single page of comics
