So, RMS’s new “GNU Kind Communications Guidelines” document. Everyone on HN likes it, and I expect CoC advocates hate it because it disavows any talk of consequences or enforcement. They’re both right, IMO. I think it (well, its general tone) is the *missing half* of a good CoC.

To oversimplify, CoCs feel like a welcome mat to people worried about abuse from others (especially new community members). RMS’s document feels like a welcome mat to people who want to improve their own behavior (especially existing community members). But why not both?
