The best thing about Dawkins is he’s an Elon Musk fanboy slipping in adoring baseless evidence free sycophancy amidst all the logic and evidence tweets.

This. It becomes more harmful as things that used to be hard to predict no longer are with standardised tooling and practices.

Ah you see, free markets and free speech are a western notion. You will take time to catch up. Never fear, the almighty algorithm has your back.

So many self owns born of self pity🤣 - "I love Indian culture and Indian film and Indian music." - "Who’s a better Indian animated character in the last 30 years?" - "I’ve been to India twice.." - "they’re picking the wrong battles." - "criticized for having an Indian character"

But Andy Lewis gets at it, the Apu controversy is sustained entirely by Simpsons people tripping over themselves in their response. I haven't seen any hyperbole from anyone who brought it up.

One of the funny ironies about is that most of the top people at the show have fallen on their faces in their responses to it and Hank Azaria, who wouldn’t participate in the movie, has been very thoughtful.

I have nothing useful to say except that SV centric tech twitter is nice but is a fountain of infinite wisdom for the rest of us.

I’m totally for funding public broadcasting, but also, applying for a tech role at ABC was the most thankless stupid waste of time job application I ever did and I got a form reply six weeks later and that was it.

One of the worst trends on Twitter is using a human reaction to dismiss a compelling argument. This is powerful and closely argued.

Twitter is basically big journo led Big Twitter of people thinking they’re having a free exchange of ideas and anything good will go viral so they’ll see it, and all these remarkable and revealing conversations that never filter up.

Expressions of the American ideal of free speech ignore what Russia, China etc. learned: suppressing free speech is no longer just about shutting down individuals or expressions of ideas, but shaping public (hate this word now) discourse and drowning out truth with multiple lies.

"'free speech' is a largely western notion" No it really isn't, it's just that it has been a while since local reporters in the west, especially in the US, had to weigh it against things like "spreading this story could get someone assaulted or even killed".

Seeing through FB's muddled doublespeak was my most calming FB moment, because I realized they're dumbly doing the right (imperfect) thing with FB in Brazil and India by throwing pennies at organizations far better suited to reining in the mess.

Kara Swisher is Jake Tapper for tech, except the respect was earned through real insight and a remarkable ability to build bridges and keep up with the valley as it changes and grows in influence. Non-male tech pundits don't get latitude like dumbfounded LIVE on TV from Helsinki.
