9/11 was the day our world changed forever.   As we take a moment to remember the victims & honor the heroes of that tragic day – let us also remind ourselves how we, as a nation, came together after the attack – and how, to this day, unity remains our greatest strength.

The horrific events of 9/11 remain a vivid & painful memory. I think often of the families who have had to live on with the devastation or loss of a loved one from that day. From the ashes rose courage of many Americans, particularly first responders who saved countless lives.

20 years ago, Americans started our day like any other only to find our worlds shattered by mid-morning as the terrorist attacks of 9/11 played out. We remember and mourn those we lost in New York City, in a field in Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon.

On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, we must challenge ourselves to look back—for the sake of our children and theirs. We must also look toward the future. Because in the end, that's what the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93 were fighting for: Their future, and ours.
