Woolsey says the US only interferes in foreign elections "in the interest of democracy." He is of course using "democracy" in the Kissingerian sense, meaning "American hegemony."

Historically, in the real world -- where words mean things -- foreign intervention has been the precise opposite of democratic. See: Iran, 1953; Russia, 1996; Honduras, 2009; etc.

More recently, in 2009, the US backed a coup in Honduras in reaction to then-president Zedaya's call for -- wait for it -- a *constitutional assembly.*

So, in fact, the US has killed masses of people around the globe specifically to *defeat* democracy in countries where the empire does not want it. In other words, the single greatest threat to democracy worldwide is the United States of America.
