Every year at AWS we do a big planning process called OP1. We listen to customers, bubble up every wild idea, along with every routine item and prioritize them together. What would you like to see from AWS in EC2, Networking, ELB, CloudFront, Route53, or anti-DDOS? Hit me up

Pings aren’t quite enough, but the other options are all viable. I’ve used a tiny HTTP service for this with Route 53 HC’s in the past. Specific protos would be lovely but it’s a never ending list. CoAP is #1 for me.

Ping, yes. Tcp, no. Plus on instance process that sends healthy status to the API that things are okay. This should be flexible. The ability to specify a process that should be running and/or a udp port that is listening.

HTTP or TCP. Flexible like NLB HC's.

Create a healthchecking service that allows for any form of healthcheck. String checks, http pings, authenticated requests, ping, tcp connect, EC2 host status, et.
