I've lived in the US for 8 years. I have a green card, but the soonest I can apply for citizenship is 2021, maybe granted in 2022. That'll be 12 years. That's the fastest I can possibly do it. I definitely consider myself a Seattleite and Washingtonian, so why not an American?
I came on a H1B, but hadn't had my degree long enough to qualify for EB1, so was in the EB2 Green card queue, which took a while.

BTW: even 6 or 7 years is longer than international norms for arrival-to-naturalization.
