It's a friendly border, but not seamless or frictionless. Queues, delays, questions, checks are common. But it's also a big mental barrier.

It is a bigger barrier than the North-South Irish border I grew up crossing. It would be very sad to see Ireland so sharply divided.

They are ready to act. Border enforcement is the priority, not freedom of movement. Because it's a hard border, with deliberate friction.
