Cannot bang this drum enough; if you're not already rich you should have term life and *probably* private long-term disability.https://twitter.com/__shale__/status/858914592331714561 …

I can see the argument for disability, but as a geek without dependants, why would I need life insurance?

I'm a single geek with no dependents and life insurance because circumstances change and cost goes up with age

But you don't magically get a discount due to buying insurance young. Your term life insurance is basically prepaying for later years' risk.

Discount is considerable if you get unhealthy later. Plus you can buy combo term life and savings plans that convert to annuities.

That's what I did. I pay in for ten years and it then converts to savings + interest, but the insurance last next 30 years.

For the extra you pay, would it be better as an etf? I've understood they're worse than normal investment if evaluated that way.

They are, there's margin to the provider, and you decide if it's worth the convenience of two-things-in-one.
