We're missing some drywall but the zinc piping is gone and replaced with Pex. Water is back and on and no real damage except for some insulation and drywall we'll need to replace.

Be glad it happened during brunch hours. Our former au pair once woke up and put her feet down on soggy carpet when our basement flooded. Not a great way to wake up

We went away to see family for about 4 weeks over Christmas and New Years and dread to think what it would have been like if this happened then.

Agreed. The trick with any trades craft person is to build the relationship before there’s an emergency. We use the same guy for all our plumbing work (even minor stuff that I could probably handle myself) so that when we had a ruptured pipe, he delayed another appt to make room.

Went out for a day trip once and our neighbors called to tell us there was water pouring out our front door. They shut off the water outside. Turns out the pipe into the house broke. We have only tile on that floor. And the neighbors sent a couple kids to help with the cleanup

I had a plumber over last week as my boiler's pressure valve broke. I've seen the mythbusters episode about that, so yeah - emergency.

My plumbing emergency was under my cement slab. Nothing like a little jack hammer work to spice up the quarantine
