I've spent a minute or two trying to think of an argument for a positive event being #3, (for my generation in the US, not me personally) and I really just don't have anything. Bleak. I finished high school in 2007, so I guess the recession?

For me probably the space shuttle Columbia disaster. I don’t know if it was as big of a thing elsewhere in the nation but it made an impact on teen me because pieces were literally raining down all over my state

The first gulf war. It was the first time that cable TV came to India and you saw an entire war on 24-hr TV. It set the stage for the next 20 years in terms of what happened in that part of the world.
