#Apache folks, do you see the trademark policy of @EclipseFdn and @TheASF, combined with their respective missions, to be completely equivalent? If I'm wrong I will gladly shut up about it. I'm neither a member of the Apache Foundation, nor affiliated with the Eclipse Foundation.https://twitter.com/mmilinkov/status/1237944522912522240 …

Long time ASF member and Eclipse ... erm ... user reporting for duty. I don't think it really matters. Commercial folks have definitely used Apache trademarks over the years in some annoying and confusing ways. Mixed successes getting them to stop.

The intent, and the expectation from the Apache Foundation BoD has been active policing and enforcement, as far as I can tell. And that is in the interest of the ASF to do so.

To me the point is that they *do* want such commercial use to stop, do they not?

Replying to @_msw_
I'd guess that most members, like me, have no real interest and don't care. But the board and the legal committee do take it seriously and try to police things. I can remember all sorts of trademark related spats over the years and they were all a net waste of time IMO.

Like I don't think it hurts Linux that there's "Amazon Linux" and "RedHat Linux" and so on. But ASF wouldn't like "Amazon Hadoop" or "Google Spark". Is that a net win for ASF? Dumb IMO.

I also remember the endless waste of time that was the Harmony fight with Sun over JCP or whatever but was essentially about using the word "Java". I don't think that did any of the parties much good.

Oh and early on there was also back and forth over using the "http://Apache.org " domain. There was a prominent link on the website to Tribal information and resources, for years. Trademarks are obviously important for reducing market confusion, but so negative in many ways.
