I work for Amazon so I am biased, but I don't work on Echo or Alexa. I've personally been involved in huge backflip investments to make sure that the oldest Kindle v1's still work, at
@JeffBezos's insistence. So I'm thinking it's time for these ... https://www.amazon.com/Echo-Link-Amp-amplify-speakers/dp/B0798GJVTR/ … - 8 more replies

I have 4 out of 10 components now “legacy”. I get why, and I’m actually okay with them not getting future updates, but freezing my entire system because of that? Unacceptable. Seems like they’ll have to do something different if they want to keep any customers.

I have a Beam but it will be the last
#Sonos gear I buy unless they radically change their approach to long term device management. This plus the 'recycle mode' which is just insulting to the intelligence of their customers. I'll go back to separate amps/speakers and wires if reqThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Also long term fan. However Sonos *still* only supports SMBv1 which has bugged me for years. https://support.sonos.com/s/article/78?language=en_US …

So after
#brickgate we either need to trade in our old hardware or turn it off to stay up to date. That's crap. I wouldn't mind if they just didn't get updates while other speakers do. -
They still have perfectly capable amplifiers and speakers. They can't deprecate those. Replace the brains of it with something else and you got a product that'll last a lifetime.

I'd long been resisting the urge to go Sonos, but had just about convinced myself that it was ok. I'm quite pleased I avoided that mistake.

I have a Play:1 which is not on that list, but will be bricked if they end support for it because its a network-only speaker, without a "headphone" jack Deff will not be getting sonos in the future :( My trust = lost
-
Followup: if they do "open source" the connection to their network-only older devices, I will be very interested in maintaining it because I do enjoy the sound quality. And good sounding drivers do not belong in the garbage for some corporate "growth" cost saving asshole strategy
