I asked if it is normal for dealer to refuse to sell a car if you don’t provide your SSN, after hearing this from a couple of Chicagoland @audi dealers. I bought a car from @AudiDesMoines w/ a cashier’s check + license (for test drive). Not asked for SSN once. Nice XP all around.
IRS says cashiers checks and bank drafts count as cash ... https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/heres-what-people-should-know-about-reporting-cash-payments … ... but cars are conspicuously absent from the example list!

cashier’s check, bank draft, traveler’s check or money order with a face amount of more than $10,000 is not “cash” for reporting purposes because the issuer is responsible for reporting
