Coming to terms with socialism as a possibility in the USA. As a lifetime Republican (pre-trump) - it's tough. The StarTrek model seems the best. Captain still gets best quarters, but all crew members have what they need. There needs to be a reason for people to work hard?

I don't think anyone is advocating for 100% income and lifestyle equality, or that it's a realistic concern. Even in Marxist/Leninist states at their worst, folks had careers and choice and specializations and varying incomes. Scientists became scientists, dancers became dancers.

I never, ever would have thought this way. But trump made it obvious to me as a sentient being.

I'm quite far to the left, but I hope the US doesn't get socialism. Would love social democracy, which for me means more progressive taxation (I'd pay more!), and free healthcare/education. It's 100% selfish though; I get to live in a richer society that way.
